I’ve been wanting to get some cacao nibs for a while now. I remember I tried them a few years ago and wasn’t a fan, but the range of foods I enjoy now has expanded a billion percent (well, close to that :p), so I had a feeling I would like them now. Their slight bitterness (you can get sweetened cacao nibs, but the ones I got were 100% Organic Cacao with no sugar) is a perfect addition to sweet desserts…sprinkled on top of raw desserts, on top of cashew cream, in chia pudding, oatmeal, on top of smoothies. They give a great slightly crunchy texture and because they are all natural, they are not all unified in size and shape. I’m a fan.
Nativas Naturals has both 100% raw vegan unsweetened Cacao Nibs and ones which are sweetened with organic sugar cane juice. I haven’t tried their cacao nibs yet, but I love their products so I am going to get some once I’ve run out of the nibs I currently have.
Cacao nibs are very high in dietary fiber and are a great source of antioxidants. Nativas Naturals mentions this about Cacao nibs:
It is also known to be one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium and possesses many other essential minerals in significant quantities.
Here are the nibs I currently have in my cupboard:
Sprinkle them around and on top of a yummy raw dessert as a pretty and tasty garnish. I bet these would be good mixed into a cake, muffin or cookie batter…it would add an interesting taste and nice contrast in texture. This post is making me hungry.
