I recently decided to try out these wasabi seaweed “chips” (in the same kind of way that kale chips are “chippy” Haha), because I love seaweed and wasabi. I was on the look for a simple healthy snack and a package was only a little over a dollar. They are a good alternative to deep fried chips which are full of saturated fats and sodium. There are approximately 20 seaweed sheets/chips in a package and each 10 chips are 30 calories, 25% Vitamin A and only 2g of fat.
Despite containing wasabi, they are not super spicy. For a second they are, but there isn’t a lingering sensation and I don’t feel the need to drink water right afterwards. The only thing that prevents me from wanting to have these regularly are a couple of the ingredients. Here’s the full list:
Seaweed, canola oil, wasabi flavor powder (maltodextrin, salt, modified corn starch, mustard oil), sesame oil, brown sugar.
I’d prefer if there wasn’t brown sugar or modified corn starch or the canola oil – So I wouldn’t say these are a perfect healthy snack, but they sure beat most things out there in the “chips and crackers and savory snacks” realm. They also come in a Sesame flavour. They are cheap, so if you are on the look for some decent snack foods you might want to give these a try.
