Non-GMO Soy Pudding – Chocolate Fudge and Strawberry Banana – Super Squeezies Review

The weather has been getting a lot toastier and I have been switching hot drinks with cool smoothies, juices, iced coffees and teas and opting for vegan sorbets and puddings for desserts. The lovely people at Sunrise Soya got in touch with me and asked if I’d like to try their new “Super Squeezies“, which are non-GMO soy-based puddings in a tube. They remind me of the frozen popsicle-type things I sometimes got when I was a kid. These were sent to me to sample, but the opinions will always be my own.

There are currently two varieties – Chocolate Fudge and Strawberry Banana. Each tube is 60 calories (click here for full nutrition label). Chocolate tends to always grab my attention first, but I am happy to note that I like both flavours equally! (Well, Chocolate Fudge may get one or two extra points.) You can get these at the Atlantic Super Store, as well as a few other grocery stores. (I haven’t found them at any of the stores near me, yet… but there is a Store Locator on the Super Squeezies site). I believe they are only found in Canada (so far), so I’m sorry to those who live elsewhere. :/

You can keep them in the fridge or the freezer. It was suggested to me that I try them frozen, so I did and they were great!  Tube-type packages often bother me a bit, since the edges tend to cut the sides of my mouth (is that just me?), so I like to squeeze one into a little freezable glass jar and eat them that way.

Both flavours taste very nice. Not artificial-tasting or anything. It may be because I am eating them frozen, but I find the packaging a bit finicky, but it is probably less so when eating them from the fridge and not the freezer.~

I think it is great that the soybeans are non-GMO, but I have heard some not so great things regarding Carrageenan, so I wonder if there is an alternate ingredient they could be using. I also try to avoid modified corn starch, so you can use your own preferences and judgements when it comes to the Modified Corn Starch and Carrageenan. I do like how these products taste, but I try to keep my diet as clean and natural as possible, so it is probably something I will only purchase occasionally. Perhaps they will switch up some of the ingredients in the future and introduce more flavours.

A lot of the other “on the go” kids products contain a whole load of unpleasant ingredients, such as artificial colours and gelatin and preservatives, so it is nice that these don’t contain those. It is also quite difficult to find products that don’t contain modified corn starch and/or Carrageenan. I have included a few pudding recipes down below, in case you’d like to make your own pudding, which will certainly not contain those or anything nasty. :)

In conclusion, I think Super Squeezies taste great and the ingredient list is a lot shorter than a lot of processed foods, so this is definitely a better choice than a lot of similar products on the market. Eating whole foods is ideal, but in a pinch these are a good snack idea, as long as your kids are getting a lot of fresh fruits and veggies in there too. :) These tend to solve my “icecream / chocolate / something cold” fix, which is nice since they are a good portion size and are better than opting for a big iced frappaccino or ice cream.
